FRED STARIKOV
Hard work and tenacity have always been central to Fred’s story. Born in Austria, at a stopping point on his parents’ journey from the Soviet Union to the United States, Fred’s family settled first in Allston, MA before eventually moving to nearby Brookline, followed by Newton. Fred spent his childhood playing sports and working in lemonade stands, delivering newspapers and in the kitchen of his father’s deli before heading to the University of Pittsburgh.
It was during his time at school that Fred’s passion for real estate began. He spent his summers and vacations working as a broker back home in Boston. Once he left school, he took it up full time and it was not long before his persistence and diligence quickly made him one of the most active brokers in the city.
It was during this time that he met Steve Whalen, as both were agents at the same office in Brighton, MA. After discovering a natural working dynamic, the two decided to partner up together to start their own office, City Realty. That office quickly expanded into multiple locations across Greater Boston, featuring a diverse workforce of dozens of employees.
Soon after the company’s founding, Fred and Steve created City Kids, a non-profit arm of the company focused on providing unique experiences and educational resources to young students in neighborhoods throughout Greater Boston. They have also partnered with local neighborhood groups and charitable organizations to provide resources and real estate to create new opportunities and expand their missions.
The pair soon shifted their focus towards property management and development. Fred’s relentless search for unique opportunities that had served his clients well for so many years now drove the new partnerships growth. Constantly adapting to market trends, Fred has an ability to analyze and act swiftly at opportunities through multiple market cycles.
To date, Fred has overseen more than $700M of real estate transactions, including more than 2,200 residential units and 200,000 SF of commercial space. He continues to oversee the company’s asset acquisition and disposition efforts while driving the strategic direction and business plan development of every City Realty property. His unparalleled vision for reading the market and seeing a properties full potential is the driving force behind City Realty’s growth both now and in the future.
Fred and his family still live in Newton, MA. His three young children ensure his time at home is as busy as his time at the office.
