STEVE WHALEN

Steve is above all else, a manager. His driving goal is to execute any task in front of him effectively and efficiently while empowering the people around him to be the best version of themselves.

After growing up in Auburn, Maine, Steve moved down to Massachusetts to attend Stonehill College. He stayed put after graduation, moving into commercial real estate brokerage with stints working at Equis Corp. and Hunneman Commercial. From there, he moved over to the residential side and began working with Fred Starikov at a real estate office in Brighton, MA.

After years as a successful brokerage team, the pair decided to open their own office, co-founding City Realty in 2004. Steve oversaw operations as this two-man office quickly expanded to multiple locations and more than 100 agents across Greater Boston. Then, as City Realty shifted focus towards management and development, he built out a full property management and construction team that was comprehensive enough to cover thousands of units but flexible enough to manage properties as small as a single family.

Steve’s management of the company’s operations has been integral in establishing the culture at City Realty. His rigorous standard ensures all work is done well and the end product is units that anyone would be proud to call home. His leasing and management teams work tirelessly to ensure units are filled with satisfied tenants and all transactions run smoothly. His execution ensures that the company achieves the aggressive goals it sets for itself every year.

But Steve’s passion for empowering others isn’t just restricted to the office. Steve is staunchly committed to social responsibility and providing equitable opportunity wherever possible. Through the company’s charitable arm, City Kids, Steve has woven giving back into every aspect of City Realty. By providing the children of Boston unique experiences, powerful educational resources, and job opportunities, City Kids is focused on sparking intellectual curiosity and energizing the future generations of the communities City Realty serves.

Steve is also a member of the advisory board for The Base, a Boston based non-profit that combines exceptional baseball training with education and career resources to empower student-athletes to achieve their full potential both on and off the field. He is also an Ambassador for the Boston Bulldogs Running Club, a community that provides support to those dealing with addiction.

As a newfound member of the Namastay Sober community, Steve is an advocate for creating a new and healthy lifestyle alongside his peers in recovery through wellness-focused community events.

Outside of work, Steve is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys surfing, hiking, climbing and scuba diving. He lives in Brookline, MA with his wife and two children.
